Causes For Hair Loss
Thinning hair and hair loss can have a number of different physical causes. One of them is not eating the proper diet. Lack of fruits and vegetables which have many vitamins in them can cause a person to lose their hair easily. Also, anyone who is having an eating disorder problem and starving themselves, may start to lose a lot of their hair.
PCOS which is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome can create patterns of a lot of hair loss and even bald spots in women. PCOS is a serious hormonal imbalance found in women that causes multiple ovarian cysts, facial hair, missed periods, and type 2 diabetes. It also brings on easy weight gain too.
Diabetes is a disease which is liable to cause a person hair loss. The reason for this is that when glucose levels continue to rise way above normal ranges, then it effects the hair follicles being able to grow new hair, as old hair comes out, it is not easily replaced as long as glucose levels remain too high. If you have hair loss along with thirst, easy tiring, hunger, slow wound healing, and frequent urination, it is time to have your blood sugar levels tested to see if they are diagnostic of diabetes.
Other types of hormonal changes in the body may cause a person significant hair loss. Sometimes a dysfunction of the thyroid gland whether it is either overactive or under active, may cause scalp hair to come out.
Pregnancy causes many types of hormonal changes in the body, and one of the things that may happen when a woman is into gestation is hair loss. It is a normal occurrence in pregnancy to have irregularities in many of the body hormones that contribute to hair growth. Hair growth will no doubt return to normal once the gestation period ends, and the body has readjusted itself to where it was before pregnancy.
Chemotherapy drugs are another cause for hair loss in people taking these drugs. The hair in most people will begin to come out as soon as the drugs are induced into the system, and will remain that way until the therapy is completed.
Other drugs may cause the loss of hair also, besides chemotherapy drugs. One type of drug is Coumadin, a blood thinner which is very hard on the entire body.
Infections of the hair follicles known as folliculitis can definitely cause a great deal of hair loss. Folliculitis other then hair loss are itching, possible rash, and blisters that fill with pus which can be caused by certain types of gram-positive bacteria, or actually be a staph infection. Getting rid of this difficult and sometimes complicated infection of hair follicles involves both topical and oral antibiotics to cure whichever type of bacteria is found. Folliculitis may cause hair loss that is long lasting and even permanent.
Whatever the cause for your alopecia, (hair loss, ) it needs to be evaluated by a doctor and treated according to what the problem is.
